Plus there are unexplained epidemics of heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, and hundreds of new autoimmune diseases in America. Why is this observable fact so mysterious? Because before the 1960’s these physical problems and diseases did not exist, were rare, or very limited.

Before the 1960’s the number of people who were overweight was small. But no one knew what obesity or Alzheimer’s was and no one ever heard of the term autoimmune disease. Regarding the high numbers of fat and obese people in America today? In the 1970’s we were convinced, without any science to back it up, that saturated fat was the enemy of our health. And Americans almost totally dropped all natural saturated fats like butter, lard and coconut oil from their diets.

We shifted from whole foods abundant in natural healthy saturated fats to unsaturated fat and low and non fat foods. Manufacturers stripped the fat out of as many foods as possible. We took the fat out of milk, cheese, meat, eggs, chicken and even fish. There are now low and non fat pastas, ice cream, cookies, cakes, custard and as many pastries as you can name, even non-fat donuts. We stripped the real fat out of everything we could find; until Americans’ total fat consumption dropped from 40% of our calories in the 1960s down to 30%, and for many people all the way down to 20%. Until today we literally cannot squeeze any more fat out of our foods!

So Americans reached tobuy wartrol and this goal, but what was the reward for dropping saturated fat, and taking up unsaturated fat, low and non fat foods; the result of all of this switching from natural whole foods with saturated fats to low or non-fat foods? Well our overweight population started to explode in the 1970’s, going from 30% of the population to an astounding 70%! And obesity went from almost zero until it now affects 40% of Americans including our children.

We were told in the media that if we got the saturated fat out of our lives, that we would be slender and our hearts would be healthier. But heart disease is still the number one killer of Americans, and almost everyone is fat or worse. And some other diseases like diabetes became epidemics, and autoimmune diseases went from less then 60 to well over 150 diseases. And Alzheimer’s became the newest disease to scare us, and some experts say it could destroy our health care system. So replacing saturated fats with unsaturated and moving to low-fat and non-fat foods did not improve our health. In fact it has probably been the worst health disaster ever, and it is spreading world wide.

Who allowed this monstrous deadly mess to grow to such insane proportions? Who are the people who knew that going down this unsaturated path would lead us to exactly where we are today; fat, sick and dying? The people who are in charge of our health and food of course! The United States Congress and Senate who are influenced by big food corporations and their lobbyists are a good start. Then there is our government Health and Human Services (HHS), and their control of what goes into our food via the FDA. Yes the very FDA, who approved of unsaturated corn and soy oils going into our food chain. Oh, and lets not forget the Center for Disease Control (CDC), who are supposed to monitor new diseases and look for the cause, and find a way to stop them, they dropped the ball big-time!

Notice above I mentioned the FDA allowed unsaturated fats into our food chain. But what is wrong with unsaturated fats and oils you may ask? Ask any farmer or rancher what would happen if you fed any animal, including humans, unsaturated corn and soy oils?

Well farmers and ranchers are very wise when it comes to fattening up their livestock in order to make more money. In the 1940s, coconut oil (a saturated fat) was dirt cheap, and so farmers fed it to their cattle. But there was a problem, instead of their cows gaining weight they got healthier, leaner and more active. In the cattle industry a slim, healthy, hungry cow is not what you want! So the farmers and ranchers kept searching and by the end of the decade they found the answer they were searching for. They discovered that if they fed their cows soybeans and corn they got fat and slow! Why, because eating lots of corn and soy beans slowed cattle down for some mysterious reason? So the soybeans and corn caused them to gain weight! Eureka, every farmer and ranchers dream, fat and lazy cows!

Scientific experiments later verified it, unsaturated fats in corn and soy (called polyunsaturated) make animals fat and sick! While saturated oils like coconut oil keep animals healthy and thin! “A later experiment fed animals pure unsaturated vegetable oil, pure saturated coconut oil, and various mixtures of the two. The animal’s obesity increased in proportion to the ratio of unsaturated fat in their diet, independent of the total amount of fat or calories they consumed. Animals that ate even small amounts of unsaturated oil were fat, and those that ate large amounts of coconut oil were thin.”

In the 1950′s even more scientific studies confirmed that fats from corn and soy clearly caused thyroid disease, and was toxic to their heart. These oils gave the cow’s hypothyroidism (a slowed thyroid disease) which lowers metabolism and increases a mammal’s weight. Science discovered that unsaturated fats damage cell mitochondria and caused immune suppression. The more unsaturated a vegetable oil is, the more it suppresses tissue response to thyroid hormones, which lowers metabolism and increases fat. Why, because the seeds of plants like corn and soy evolved this as protection from mammals eating their seeds. Mammals that eat these unsaturated seed oils, experience excessive weight gain (obesity), diabetes, heart disease, cancer and immune system disorders.

As I said, this is great for farmers who want lazy, obese animals. Because when you sell their meat by the pound unsaturated fats from seeds like corn and soy are a gold mine! However for the American consumer it means always gaining weight and the danger of developing heart disease, diabetes, cancer, thyroid disease and immune system disorders. These diseases are all now epidemics in the USA. And somehow all of this science was overlooked by the FDA during their approval process.

Now remember, when there is a cause, everybody eating unsaturated fat, then there is an effect; not getting enough saturated fat! That is right; not getting enough of the real saturated fats from nature can actually be dangerous to your health? Yes, this is something else we were not told, that we need saturated fat! Because it provides us with energy; and it is needed in the healthy function of our hormones. Plus our brain is made up of 60% saturated fat which is essential for proper brain function. Also the health of your skin, hair, thyroid, nerves and the majority of our bodies systems require saturated fats for proper function. Your Junk Food Craving Weakness and the Food Industry’s Secret Ingredient

Why, when we know it is junk food that is not good for us and is just going to put another pound on our girth and make us sick, do we still crave it and love to eat it so much?   Well there are some secrets about you and a special secret ingredient that the food industry scientists know about and you do not.   That is right, there are some secret weaknesses you have that they take advantage of and there is a chemical ingredient (that for them is like magic) that they add to the junk food.   That ingredient opens that weakness so they can get you to buy and eat worthless food thinking it is good for you.   And I am going to tell you exactly what that weakness is and what the chemical is that they are using against you.

What is Your Weakness?

Your weakness is that your body has one major way to tell you that it needs nutrition to keep going.   Your body cannot hand you a list that says I need protein, vitamin C, magnesium and potassium.   It has only one way of doing this and that is the taste of food.   So your body, when it needs nutrition, is going to start sending urges for certain tastes so it can get the nutrition it must have.   The main powerful taste signals it will send you are for the taste of sugar and salt (the other flavors are sour, bitter and umami).   I know you are thinking sugar and salt are junk and bad for you.   Well they were not junk or bad for you until the food industry got a hold of them and refined the nutrition out.   For your body the taste of salt and sugar represent the nutrition that it needs.   Can you see the picture here, food with no nutrition going into a body that is looking for nutrition, crazy right?

So think of the taste craving as being a switch that is turned on by your body until it gets the nutrition it needs.    So, no matter how much food you eat, that switch will not go to the off position until your body gets the nutrition.   Your body has no choice here.  It must get that nutrition, your life depends on it.   Guess who knows about this problem you have?   The food industry scientists know this and use it against you.  They put their refined nutritionless salt and sugar in everything that is put on the shelves even canned meats.   But when it comes to junk food they go all out to hook you into eating it.   Why, because it costs them almost zero to make junk food, it is all profit.

What is the Secret Ingredient?    

The secret ingredient(s) has no name and is classified in the ingredients list under artificial flavor; can’t get much more secret than that can you?   I can give you the name of the company that makes the chemical(s); Senomyx is their name.   What are the chemicals used for?   To disguise the fact that there is less salt or sugar or other flavor in the food so the company such as Campbell Soup can tell you it has 25% less salt without the loss of taste, remember the one your body is looking for.  Things like supplements are chalk full of good minerals and other essential things youll need in order to improve your immune system, the best testosterone booster is something that can help you bodies physical health alongside the other things you need in life. This way the food can be promoted as healthier for you because it has less of those refined ingredients, which in the refined form causes high blood pressure, weight gain and many other diseases.   But the nutrition your body is looking for is still not there; this new ingredient only makes your mouth think it is there.   Are these secret ingredients dangerous to you, no one knows because the studies that Senomyx did for an extremely short, suspicious FDA approval are, guess what, kept a secret.   Who are the companies using these ingredients?  Kraft Foods, Nestle’s, Coca-Cola and Campbell Soup so far.

Here is what puzzles me the most about this and I have trouble wrapping my mind around it.   These companies insist on putting refined and secret products in our food when they know that these products are going to make many people like you and your family suffer with disease, why do they do it to us?   I have a college doctorate in naturopathic medicine and I know that when someone with high blood pressure adds whole nutrition filled salt to a healthy diet that their blood pressure goes down.   This is also true if you put whole sugar in a healthy diet your weight will go down.    Then my question is, why don’t these companies just do the right thing for us, what is their problem?

Obesity and the Marshmallow Conspiracy

I remember when a marshmallow was a marshmallow, do you?   Have you tried to roast a marshmallow lately, good luck?   What has happened to the good old marshmallow?  The same thing that has happened to most of our food.   When we were not paying any attention they took the marshmallow out of marshmallows but kept the price moving gradually upward.   What is in the marshmallow today?  Artificial color, artificial flavor, corn syrup, dextrose, gelatin (cow hooves), modified corn starch, sugar and tetrasodium pyrophosphate, sounds like a gut bomb to me.   It still looks like a marshmallow and they still call it a marshmallow but it is obviously not.   This kind of slow changing of ingredients has gone on throughout the food industry; it reminds me of the Trojan horse.   The food industry’s major concern is shelf life and marketing a lot of their junk to us, not what happens after we eat the stuff.   Now suddenly everyone is noticing that gee, we have an obesity epidemic (1/3 of the country obese) and a whole lot of other epidemics.   Medical science’s weak answer to the obesity epidemic is genetics, so they can research it and make more drugs.   But wait a minute, how does the genetics of an entire country change in a matter of years?   I am sure that your doctor cares, but does the medical industry care?   Why should they care; more sick people means more money into their industry.   Many people I have talked to blame the obese person saying “they eat too much and they are lazy”.  One third of the country and growing, I don’t think so.

Through the food industry, our food is subjected to poor farming methods, irradiation, pasteurization, emulsification, over-refining, genetic modification, steriod-ization, antibiotic-ization.    Then before it gets to us they add aspartame, MSG, artificial colors, sodium nitrite, hydrogenated oils, high-fructose corn syrup, acesulfame K, BHA, BHT, olestra, bromate, sulfites, senomyx, and I could go on and on.   Good grief, what do they think we are?   You and I know that this is not right.  A marshmallow should be a marshmallow, not degrade into something chemically unrecognizable.   Food should have food value and nourish us, not turn us into an obese sickly country, you know it, I know it and they should know it. 

Not long ago the people of England got upset with the food industry over some GMF ingredients that were being put in their foods.   Some of the companies involved were pretty big and used to having their way.   Well when they realized that the public was angry, they pulled those foods and ingredients from the shelves in one week flat.   Maybe we need to do the same thing here in the United States.

The Mystery of Food Cravings, Weight Gain and Disease

Here comes the food craving monster and it just has to have a dozen Oreo cookies with chocolate-chip ice cream and hot fudge sauce, or a bag of potato chips with your favorite dressing, a side of peanut butter on Cheez-it Crackers or chocolate, any kind will do, ppppp-please.   But nooo no no, you are on a diet and you have to have that tiny tiny dish of no cal, no fat, no salt, no carb, no taste Yuk!   Well good luck with the diet, because the craving monster is not going to give in until you do.   And you know, that deep down inside, you want the monster to win so that you can cuddle up in front of the TV and munch away at those goodies in a vain attempt to solve your favorite food craving.

The question is, why does your body and mind send you messages to eat the very things that make you fat and eventually sick?   What is wrong with your body and mind?  Why are they pushing you toward self destruction?   It is as though there is an empty place inside you that calls out for the junk, but no matter how much junk you pour in, it cannot be filled.   While in the mean time your body blows up like a balloon and disease is waiting around the corner.

Actually, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your body or your mind.   That’s right, your body and mind are just fine, running just exactly like they should.   Let me make this absolutely clear.  Your body and mind are doing exactly what they were programmed to do.   And your body and mind will do this even if your stomach is full, which I am sure many of you have experienced.

What is the program your body and mind are on that would do this to you?   It is a nutritional program, a program that is trying to get you to eat the nutrition it needs for optimal functioning.   To run at peak performance your body needs certain amounts of water, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and friendly bacteria, etc.   Some of these are needed in large amounts and some in micro doses but all of them are crucial for peak performance and isn’t that what we all want, peak performance?

Peak performance, well what does that have to do with my body craving junk food, there is little nutrition there?   That, my friend, is just the point and a big part of the craving problem.   Your body does not understand that there is little nutrition in those foods.   Your body depends on taste to tell it if there is nutrition in the food you eat.   Most junk food is either sweet or salty tasting and your body senses sweet or salty as containing the nutrition it needs (the other flavors are sour, bitter and umami).

Let me approach this from a different angle.   The craving is your body saying to you that there is some nutrition missing and it needs to be replaced.   Your body cannot hand you a list that says I am missing vitamin C, iodine, magnesium and potassium.   Your body can only get that message to you by giving you a craving to eat foods that have the taste that tells your body the nutrition is there, salt and sugar etc.

Of course we both know that the food manufacturing companies have refined the nutrition out of the junk food.   Well what about the regular food you eat?  What about the nutrition that is in those foods, and what about the produce?   Many of those foods were grown using poor farming methods, refined, altered genetically and irradiated to extend shelf life, which also depletes their nutrition and gives you cravings for what is missing.   Oh, and lets not forget the cooking.  When the food you cook reaches somewhere between 112 and 118 degree Fahrenheit you destroy even more of the nutrition your body needs.

Now you might very well ask about those expensive vitamins you take every day.  Some of them say that they have thousands of times the minimum daily requirement (MDR).   Sorry no cigar, easily 95% plus of those vitamins are synthetic made from chemicals not food.   Nature, God bless her, has a basic law when it comes to the nutrition of living things; “we can only get our nutrition from plants”.   We cannot sidestep that law and eat dirt, so if your vitamin does not say “made from whole foods” or something to that effect, then it does you little good and that goes for food based as well.   Plus having thousands of times the MDR is confusing to your body, a meaningless sales gimmick that will not stop the cravings.

Are you beginning to feel like you are between a rock and a hard place?  I know how you feel, I felt the same way when I discovered this.   It is why America is now the fattest country in the industrialized world today, with 70% of our people overweight and 20% of them obese.   So, at least now you know that it is not you or your body’s fault if you are overweight, or that you are weak in the face of these food cravings, because you were not aware till now what was going on.

“Wait a minute,” you might ask, “what about genetics, my thyroid, low metabolism, my hormone imbalance?”   Common sense tells us that the genetic makeup of the country does not change overnight.   Your genetic make up and all the organs in your body from your skin down to your bones are all tied to the nutrition your body receives.   If your body is depleted of any of the essential nutritients I spoke of before, things will not run as they should and you will start to experience symptoms.   Symptoms, like headaches, indigestion, skin problems, weight gain, dry and brittle hair (see my article “Nutritional Debt” for a full list of symptoms); until something gives way and you become sick.   Taking drugs for a disease of nutrition will lead to another disease, and so on until you have many diseases and many drugs; I see this all the time.

There is a way to speed-up this process and that is by adding a whole food supplement as I spoke of before.   Adding food private label supps will also help fill that nutritional hole and you will start feeling naturally full after a meal, not like you just swallowed a bowling ball.   Gradually the cravings will go away and you will move to your genetic weight as I did.

So until you get enough nutrition in your body you will not know if a disease you have is real or just a nutritional problem.   The worst I have seen personally, was an obese man with 5 diseases on 19 prescribed drugs telling me he just wanted to see his son graduate from high school.

So what can you do to solve this problem and protect your family and you from what is happening?   You need to get enough nutritious foods to help offset what refined foods have taken.   Produce, though we have been taught differently, has been scientifically proven to be the most concentrated food on the planet.  But the produce most markets carry isn’t the best, as I described above, but there is a trend to bring organic produce into most chain markets today.   Farmers markets and health food stores can help you and as a last resort take what is available until you can locate a better source.

Here is the optimal way to reverse what has been happening to you; at each meal, gradually bring in more raw produce till you are eating 70% of your meal (for the average person that works out to about 1 to 1½ lb or .4 to .7 kg) in raw produce.   I know, I know that sounds like a lot but if you do it gradually and juice some of it if you like, you will find that the benefits will make it well worth your while.   It will alkalize your body, drive away those symptoms I described, like the headaches and indigestion; plus your skin and hair will get more youthful and you will discover energy you never knew you had.   If I were you I would start with the morning drink for breakfast (see my article The Morning Drink).

The Thyroid Epidemic

Seasonal Cleansing and Detoxing, Why Should You, How To, Plus the Truth about Constipation, Prolapse of the Transverse Colon, Mucoid Plaque and Autointoxication Are They a Hoax, Quackery or a Cancer Time Bomb?

When I had cancer 20 years ago; I went to a number of seminars where speakers talked about different forms of natural healing, Chinese Medicine, Homeopathy, etc.   The most motivating of these was a presentation by a doctor of Thompsonian Naturopathic medicine; his subject was “The Colon and Colon Cleansing”, the event was awesome thanks to Epic Events.   I had no interest at all in the subject but I had read a few remarkable articles by the doctor and I wanted to hear him speak.

One extraordinary thing about the lecture was the response of the people in the room to what the speaker said about the colon; remember this is 20 years ago.   He made a lot of jokes about the American people being the most constipated in the world followed by England and Germany; the reaction to that was a lot of nervous laughter.   Then, he spoke at length about individual constipation with a few more jokes and more nervous laughter.   Then he said that modern medicine has spent 50 years denying that constipation and the health of the colon have anything to do with disease.   He said that this was ironic because the name “Physician” comes from the word physic which means to clean out the colon; they are colon cleaning doctors.   This went on for at least 10 more minutes.   Throughout the lecture I found it interesting to observe the reaction of the audience and myself to the subject and what the speaker said.   It was to some degree a taboo subject at that time, no one talked about it and yet here was this speaker; breaking all the rules and we all laughed as he did so.

Then he got serious and talked about why the colon is so dangerous if it is not taken care of.   By the end of the lecture I knew that a major reason I had cancer was because I had not been taking care of my own colon.   I never paid any attention to how often I went.  I did know that sometimes I did not go for a day or two, more for all I knew.   Sometimes I went from not going to having the runs (called spastic bowel) which might go on for a few weeks to a month, from constipated to the runs over and over.   I felt bloated all the time and I had flatulence almost all of the time.   In those last few years there had been times when I saw blood in my stool, which worried me greatly.   I was very inspired by his lecture.  I took the notes he handed out (see bottom of page). I bought the 2 formulas (Colon Cleanse and Colon Detox), and I went home and started taking the cleanse that night at supper.   I made a lot of other changes beginning that night and I did a lot of work on myself beyond cleansing and detoxing (see my website  Three months later my prostate cancer symptoms were gone.
